Morris L. McCollum "Mr. Mac" born April 27, 1927 in Denver Colorado. Upon graduating high school, Mac joined the Navy and served on the USS Golden City in World War II. Inspired by his mother's years in retail, after leaving the Navy, Mac left college in Nebraska to pursue his own career in retail. Johnny Haas recruited Mac west to Tacoma to run his General store. After 2 years, Mac was able to open up his first store in Tacoma by the name of Mac The Knife. And the rest they say...is history
Mr. Mac cared about the Tacoma Hilltop deeply. He began with K Street Boosters Club, then the Upper Tacoma Business District and later the Hilltop Business Association. In 2015 he received the NAACP lifetime acheivment award. In 2016 he received The Hilltop Hero award which honor's Hilltop Legends.
If you knew Mac, you knew he was a man who knew what he wanted and made sure it happened. He loved Boxing and Golfing and was apart of the Tacoma Athletic Commission becoming president in 1978.
